march and rally on Saturday, March 21, 2009, the sixth anniversary of
the invasion of Iraq. Similar marches will be taking place that day in
Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other cites throughout
the US.
Our current plan is to call for troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and
also for money for healthcare, jobs and education, not for war and
occupation.
We recognize that we are living in a changing world. The election of a
new president has raised the hopes of many for change, while the
greatest global economic crisis in generations has led to profound
uncertainty.
As John Nichols wrote recently in The Nation:
"Just as a well-inclined but cautious Roosevelt needed the prodding of
mass movements and militancy to talk the Washington establishment into
accepting radical shifts in the economic order, so Obama will need to be
able to point to some turbulence at the grassroots."
We need your help and we need your input to organize 'grassroots
turbulence' here in San Diego. Join us at the next planning meeting of
the SDCPJ on Monday, January 5, 7 pm, at the Church of the Brethren,
3850 Westgate Place, San Diego. This is the meeting where we will decide
on the themes of the march, and also on the march route and rally site.
