The time for Immigration Reform is NOW.
Millions voted for legalization, making the difference in the last election.
So why are immigrant workers still under attack?
Barack Obama and Congressional Democratic leaders have promised to make it a priority this year, yet the persecution of immigrants continues and the opponents of legalization continue to set the tone.
lNow the Obama Administration has stepped up the persecution of undocumented workers through the expansion of the notorious "287(G)" agreements that deputize police departments to serve as immigration enforcers increasing victimization and racial profiling
lDepartment of Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano has also pledged to expand the "E-Verify" database system that will target undocumented workers for mass firings
lAnti-immigrant crusaders like Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County Arizona continue to run amuck, terrorizing immigrants and Latino communities.
lHate groups and bigoted politicians continue to push anti-immigrant propositions and legislation at the state level to criminalize immigrants and their children.
lBorder militarization is undergoing a new phase under the guise of the drug war.
Where is the change that millions voted for last November? Why do the Republicans and the anti-immigrant Right continue to dictate the terms of immigration after repeated defeats at the polls?
It's time for immigrant's rights activists to come together and raise our voices in unison to make sure the will of the majority is heard. It's time for us to strategize and develop a plan of action to make sure a progressive and pro-immigrant voice shapes the outcome of the looming showdown over immigration reform.
Join the Si Se Puede Immigrant Rights Organization and a growing list of organizations in planning and organizing a San Diego Regional Conference on October 17th at San Diego City College to develop a plan of action for the passage of just, humane, and progressive immigration reform.
