Why this matters: The Gregory Canyon Landfill is proposed to be carved into the side of a mountain sacred to the local Luiseño people. Environmental Health Coalition has opposed this project from the beginning because of environmental justice concerns. The dump would be located next to the Pala reservation, home to more than 600 people. The landfill would also contaminate the San Louis Rey River, which supplies water not only to the Pala tribe but also to the City of Oceanside.
This is a travesty and a gross environmental injustice.
