Do we Abandon or Engage the Democratic Party?"

The corporate media and our textbooks portray the "two-party system" as a centerpiece of American democracy. Two parties, we are told, represent dramatically different agendas thus stronger democracy.
Do we have a bi-partisan political monopoly? To leftist who look through the lens of a class analysis, the two parties share very similar agendas on the wars, the military budget, corporate bailouts, budget deficits, deregulating business, the diminishing of civil liberties, lax environmental regulations, etc. Want change? How bad does it have to get?
Monopolizing democracy: Both Republicans and Democrats have limited democracy by creating "election laws requiring non-monopoly candidates and parties to “prove” they deserve to be on the ballot". To make matters worse third parties are excluded from most debates, so where is our democracy? (www.democracyisNOTfreedom.com)
JOIN US FOR DISCUSSION & DEBATE: Lefties & progressives & the world, we all need an effective opposition. Why do we need a 3rd party? How do we build it? In the meanwhile, do we trash the Democratic Party or work within it to create change within?
