So we have received the news, Osama Bin Laden is dead – killed by US action in Pakistan.
What has changed?
- U.S. military occupation of Iraq continues, with harm to U.S. soldiers and Iraq citizens, and at huge taxpayer cost
- U.S. war in Afghanistan continues, with even greater harm to U.S. and Afghanistan citizens, at great and escalating cost
- The export of the Afghan war into Pakistan is made even worse, as retaliation against U.S. violation of Pakistan's sovereignty can be expected
- Multinational and rogue corporations continue to reap huge profits at taxpayer expense, over $320,000 every minute
So what HAS changed? Nothing yet, but maybe soon, this: especially for those for whom revenge has been the constant reaction to Sept. 11, 2001, revenge must now be seen as complete. Maybe the U.S. side of this madness can finally end. With voices loud enough to overcome the force of war profiteering, maybe we can declare victory, bring the troops home, and spend resources on humanity, rather than against it.
