NEWS

• January 6th is the deadline for submitting ballot propositions. A group of OSD activists are working on several proposals:
  • Revision to SDMC54.0110 which will provide an explicit exemption for "peaceful political activities" similar to the wording in trespassing laws (647e)
  • Clean Elections proposal for San Diego City offices.
• January 7th is the 3-month anniversary of Occupy San Diego!

"Dangerous" flag poles
One of the laws the police use to hassle protestors is this one:

§53.30 Dangerous Weapons Used During Picketing, Demonstrations And Strikes
No person shall carry or possess while participating in any demonstration, rally, picket line or public assembly any metal stake, club, or pipe, or any length of lumber, wood, or lath, unless that wooden object is 1/4" or less in thickness, and 2" or less in width. If not generally rectangular in shape, such wooden object shall not exceed 1/2" in its thickest dimension.

It talks about metal stakes, clubs, or pipes. It talkes about wood, lumber, lath. But it does not talk about plastic. Perhaps it is safer to use a plastic dowel as a flag pole? According to this, it could be any diameter at all.

• (8a) OCCUPY ROSE BOWL - Time for the van: 8:20pm Sunday night. Wear occupy shirts, banners, etc. Have a spot in 44th section of the parade and 99th section. If you are driving up, meet at 3am at FP on Monday Morning to pick up riders. Get up there by 6am in the morning ON MONDAY. Signs, etc. on getting Corporate greed out of politics -- not all the other various issues. They need people on the corner of Orange and Colorado. Contact Chris McKay for more info.
