Seaside Center for Spiritual Living in Encinitas will host a free special event, "Celebrating Peace" for the community on Feb. 1 from 7pm to 9pm to launch The 15th Annual Season for Nonviolence (www.agnt.org/node/10) inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and honoring their vision for an empowered, nonviolent world. The Season officially begins on Jan. 30, and it continues through April 4, as a 64-day educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower lives and communities.
The "Celebrating Peace" event at Seaside Center will include a Peace Proclamation from Encinitas Mayor Jerome Stocks and presentations from Peggy Callahan; cofounder of Free the Slaves (www.freetheslaves.net), Elza Maalouf; Arab-America Futurist, CEO Center for Human Emergence-Mideast (www.integralinsights.net/aboutElza.htm), and Rev. Christian Sorensen from Seaside Center.
A Peace Award is also being presented to Dr. Barbara Fields; Executive Director, The Association for Global New Thought; Cofounder (with Arun GandhI) and Project Director – The Gandhi King Chavez Season for Nonviolence 1998-present. Inspirational music will be provided by local musical artists and there will be drumming facilitated by musical therapist, author Christine Stevens. To capture the evening's events as they unfold, artist Ben Swatez will be creating a live emerging painting.
