Huh? Yes, today, Tuesday Sept. 25th was National Voter Registration Day.
Okay, it's not actually an officially proclaimed holiday or such, but it's an idea that many nonprofits and other organizations supported because voting is a big part of creating an active citizenry.
So what? Well, part of creating a more just society or a "better world" means opening up the avenues for all people to make meaningful contributions to society. In the US, that very much includes the public directly participating in "big" decision-making activities. After all, this is a government "by the people" and, as the familiar quote goes, "the world is run by those who show up." (You can even get a bumper sticker of this from us at the PRC!)
Anyway, don't worry if you didn't know about this registration effort. You can still help. AND more importantly, there is still time to REGISTER! (The deadline is Monday October 22.)

Thanks for supporting democracy and the right to participate,

P.S. If you're wondering... YES, it is 100% legal for all 501(c)3 organizations to do voter registration drives and other nonpartisan election-related activities. In fact, "the right of nonprofits to make their voices heard in the policy-making process is rooted in the U.S. Constitution" (from p.19 of "The Lobbying Strategy Handbook" by Pat Libby). So, PLEASE do spread the word about registering to vote, and definitely contact us if you're interested in participatory democracy!
