LOVE & The LAW
On March 26 and 27, the United States Supreme Court will hear cases challenging California's Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which ban legal recognition of same-sex couples' marriages. Will they uphold the lower-court rulings that have declared marriage equality a civil right? Will they reverse them and say the definition of marriage should be led to each state? Or will they look for a procedural "out" that will allow them to rule narrowly in these cases without establishing any sweeping precedents?
