Special Presentation on the
Special Presentation on the
"SCHOOL OF AMERICAS" WATCH
6:30 Doors Open
7-8:30 Talk with Q&A
~Free & Open to Public ~
Bob and Joan Morris, a retired engineer and a social worker from San Diego, recently returned from a trip to El Salvador with a delegation from the School of the Americas Watch.
The Morris' will speak about their trip, the purpose of the delegation and their advocacy for non-violent protest of the School of the Americas' purpose and its effect on the peoples of Latin American countries. They'll describe several visits to outlying communities where people testified on the effects of El Salvador's 15 year war to which the U.S. contributed $1,000,000 daily to suppress the poor and underprivileged.
SOA Watch seeks to close the School of the Americas (presently renamed as WINSEC) through nonviolent protest, wherever they believe protest will be effective. The delegation consisted of 25 people from all over the United States who joined Friar Roy Bourgeois, founder of SOAW, to meet with government representatives from El Salvador. The purpose of the delegation was to request that El Salvador no longer send military personnel to the U.S. School for training in "counter-insurgency" techniques of persecution, torture and murder of persons identified as opposed to Latin American governments friendly to U.S. foreign policies.
