This is to let you know that NEW content has recently been posted at http://www.comdsd.org/, the Web site of the San Diego-based Committee Opposed to Militarism and the Draft (COMD).
The current update includes three articles from the latest issue of COMD's printed newsletter, Draft NOtices:
- "Patriotism and Propaganda — Superman: Man of Steel ," by Oskar Castro, explains how the latest Superman movie is being used for military recruitment ads.
- "Military Sexual Assault: It's the Culture," by GI rights counselor Kathy Gilberd, points out the reasons why this problem keeps getting worse and can't be solved with the government's current approaches.
- "Army Report Analyzes Decreasing Popularity of High School Military Testing," a summary by Paula Hoffman-Villanueva of key findings in a study that looks at why high schools are increasingly reluctant to give their students the military's ASVAB test. Included is a link to a new memo from the Rutgers School of Law criticizing violations of student privacy when the ASVAB test is given in schools.
In addition to the above three articles, the current printed version of Draft NOtices contains articles on several other topics and a form for students to opt out when schools release their names to recruiters. To order the complete printed version, visit the Web site's Draft NOtices page.
