This is to let you know that NEW articles and updated content have recently been posted at http://www.comdsd.org/, the Web site of the San Diego-based Committee Opposed to Militarism and the Draft (COMD).
The current update includes three articles from the latest issue of COMD's printed newsletter, Draft NOtices:
- "Draft Registration Requirement Advances for Calif. Driver's License: LETTERS NEEDED!," asking for action by June 28 to defeat the sixth attempt to make draft registration a requirement for males to obtain a driver's license in California.
- "JROTC Instructors Can Now Apply to Teach PE in California" by Rick Jahnkow, reporting that Gov. Brown intervened to reverse an earlier teacher credentialing decision and make it possible now for JROTC instructors to skip normal credential requirements and teach physical education in their classes.
- "Report Exposes Mistreatment of GIs by Fort Hood Leadership," by Rena Guay and Kathleen Gilberd, describes a new report outlining unethical health care practices, command disregard of medical advice, and violations of policy at the Ft. Hood Army base.
In addition to the above three topics, the current printed version of Draft NOtices includes articles on: recruiters' use of drones to attract young people to the military; a bilingual form students can use to prevent their high schools from releasing their names to recruiters; and how the Barrio Logan Community Plan was defeated by war contractors and the Navy's silence.
