Subject: ASUCSD Resolution on CHE Cafe Eviction by UCSD
Dear UC President Napolitano and the UC Board of Regents,
Please find attached the resolution adopted by the Associated Students Council at UCSD. The Associated Students Council of UCSD, representing 20,000 undergraduate students, adopted this resolution at their meeting of Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
The ASUCSD was not consulted about the UCSD administration’s decision to evict the C.H.E. Cafe from a student fee-funded facility. The C.H.E. Cafe Collective is a registered student organization. The C.H.E. Cafe building is maintained by self-assessed student body fees, approved by student body referendum, as opposed to public tax-based University funds.
The resolution refers to the “GSA”. The GSA is the Graduate Students Association of UCSD, which represents 5,000 graduate students. The GSA Council voted on Monday, October 27, 2014 to conduct its own investigation of the status and future of the C.H.E. Cafe.
We are entering this ASUCSD resolution into the public record, via this official communication to the Board of Regents.
Stop the Eviction!
Respectfully,
Monty Reed Kroopkin, B.A., UCSD class of 1981
