This is to let you know that NEW articles and updated content have recently been posted at http://www.comdsd.org/, the Web site of the San Diego-based Committee Opposed to Militarism and the Draft (COMD).
The current update includes three articles from the latest issue of COMD's printed newsletter, Draft NOtices:
- "Kidnapped Student Teachers in México: An Inside Perspective," offers the valuable insight of Luis Villanueva Rodríguez, a social justice teacher and community activist in the U.S. who attended a teacher college in Mexico like the one where 43 student teachers were kidnapped and possibly killed last year.
- "Changing Recruitment Policies in Schools: One Phone Call and Email at a Time," by Kate Connell, describes the recent campaign that succeeded in establishing a policy to regulate recruiting in the schools of Santa Barbara, CA.
- "U.S. Militarism and the International Sex Industry," by Karen Guzman, sheds light on how the spread of U.S. military bases contributes to the growth of prostitution and other elements of the international sex industry.
In addition to the above three topics, the current printed version of Draft NOtices includes articles on: curriculum policy that prepares students for non-military college and career options, half a billion U.S. dollars wasted on planes that were turned into junk metal in Afghanistan, and the anti-drone lecture given to Obama by Nobel peace prize winner Mallala Yousafzai.
