Housing Justice NOW! - Interview with a Maria, City Heights Tenant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCZLihhYi9Q&feature=youtu.be Video summary:
"In this interview, Sandra Galindo of the San Diego Socialist Campaign interviews Maria, a City Heights renter whose family faces unsafe and unsanitary living conditions in their apartment complex because their landlord refuses to address their needs. The landlord, like many in the area, refuses to take legally-required action to provide safe and comfortable living conditions.
This is an example of a larger problem in housing that has reached a state of crisis in San Diego communities like City Heights. The Mayor and current City Council have failed to make the housing needs of working families a priority, and instead serve the interests of bankers, developers, big landlords, and real estate agencies. They have not allocated the necessary resources to enforce existing laws to protect renters like Maria and her family, and to hold slumlords accountable.
For this reason, the San Diego Socialist Campaign is organizing to make housing rights for working families a public issue. Our campaign is focused on holding slumlords and local elected leaders accountable for their neglect and inaction. Our goal is to address the real needs of working people and to win real gains that improve our lives."
