Coffee Party USA (CP) News Room Chair placed a story in our News Room that touched a nerve. She was concerned that some people on the CP Facebook page had a Bernie Sanders bias. It is a Common Dreams article by John Atcheson, the author of the novel "A Being Darkly Wise." The article is titled "What the Ex-Pat Primary Tells Us About the Bernie Blackout." Atcheson writes the following towards the end of the article.
Now, about that ex pat primary; It included Americans living abroad all over the world. They voted overwhelmingly for Sanders – 69% for him, 31% for Clinton. This may well tell us something about the effect of the Bernieblackout. While here in the US, the media and the rest of the Establishment either ignores or discounts Sanders, he’s covered as he should be overseas – as a serious contender with mainstream policies that appeal to the majority of Americans. Yes, that’s right, on an issue-by-issue basis most Americans agree with Bernie on the major policy choices facing us today. So the lesson is, Bernie is right – we need a revolution. One that not only gets money out of politics, but one that seizes the fourth estate back from the clutches of the Oligarchy.
The reality is that many of the posters are mitigating the media's dereliction of their duty as noted by Atcheson. The media failure is two fold. Bernie Sanders does not get his deserved coverage because his policies are anathema to the plutocracy and by inference the traditional mainstream media. The corporate masters and their figureheads attempt to control Sanders' exposure which would likely increase his electability.
A caller to my Politics Done Right show provided an additional explanation for the sorry state of our news. He stated that the editorial department that used to decide what stories were prioritized based on societal need is now done in effect by a marketing department. Most of us understood that for some time. However having a newspaper reporter, an insider call in was very important. Listen to what he had to say in the video in this post.
