The National Action Network was contacted for help by a San Diego family of 66-year old Raymond Wiley just a few weeks ago an African American male who was doing his regular Friday Morning walk down Imperial Ave. when he for the first time ever since he's been doing his early morning walk for years was stopped by a San Diego Police Officer early Friday July 22, 2017 and was arrested due to his walking stick which ended up being a "leaded cane" charge as the officer arrested him. The officer proceeded to search him and of course 66- year old Raymond Wiley was very compliant with the officer as the officer only found a car key of his daughter's car that he drives and the officer then gave him a "burglary tool" charge which was for the key being too slim and the officer said that he could use it for burglary. The National Action Network and Rev. Shane Harris were able to help the family reach bail and since had began a calling campaign into the San Diego District Attorneys office asking them to not charge Raymond Wiley with what Reverend Shane Harris called "unwarranted charges" and since the San Diego District Attorney announced they will not file charges against Raymond Wiley. The National Action Network and several community groups are raising concerns around Raymond Wiley especially since it's been over two weeks since the incident, charges have been dropped, and there have been several calls to Police Chief Shelly Zimmerman who since has not responded yet no body worn camera footage has been released from the incident. The National Action Network will hold a Friday Morning Press conference to announce a civil rights lawsuit against the City of San Diego as well as to call for the release of video from the incident and Civil Rights Leader Reverend Shane Harris will call for a meeting with Mayor Kevin Faulconer regarding the incident and the calling for the officer to be disciplined in some way shape or form.
